Leading Edge Protection (LEP)

Dosing systems for edge protection of rotor blades in wind turbines

The rotor blades of wind turbines are exposed to extreme loads and weather conditions. This is why protecting the leading edges of the rotor blade is important. At high speeds, hail and bird strikes or raindrops can cause damage to the leading edges of the rotor blade. A two-component polyurethane compound is applied to the leading edges to protect the rotor blades. The application is generally carried out manually and beside infusion, pultrusion or gel coat, it is one of the vast numbers of applications used in the manufacture of rotor blades. The application can be conducted with the DOPAG metering and mixing system eldomix.
